The Victorian Traditional Owners Trust manages the lump-sum funds from Native Title settlements in the State of Victoria, Australia. It does so pursuant to agreements between the State of Victoria and Traditional Owner (Aboriginal) Groups, under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 of Victoria. The Trust makes distributions to Traditional Owner Groups for charitable purposes and is not subject to income tax.
The Trustee for the Trust is Victorian Traditional Owners Funds Limited, a non-profit company limited by guarantee and formed in September 2011 under Australian company law. Although its sole member is the Secretary for the Department of Justice, the company operates as a normal commercial entity, with a cost-effective management structure.
Both the Trust and the Trustee are audited by the Victorian Auditor-General's Office.
